How much will a solar panel system cost?
Every project is different and based on your property's specific needs. Therefore, the price is going to vary from property to property. What to keep in mind though is your monthly solar loan payment will be taking the place of your monthly electric bill. Once your solar loan is paid off, you will see additional significant savings!
How big of a system do I need for my property?
We offer a free consultation to determine the size of the solar module system you’ll need to power your home. Every system will be designed to specifically address a property's energy usage needs, roof specifications, and other factors.
Do I have to own my property to have solar panels installed?
Yes, unless the building owner agrees to purchase or lease a solar panel system for the property you’re occupying.
Will it be hard to sell my property with solar panels?
If you own your solar panels, your property will sell at a premium as renewable energy systems increase property value. The solar loan will be transferred to the new owner if it’s not paid off at the time of purchase.
Will solar panels damage my roof?
No! The first thing we do is inspect your roof to confirm whether it can withstand the added weight of a solar panel installation. While installation of your solar panels will require holes in the roof to affix the racking, sealants at these holes will prevent roof leaks. Once installed, solar panels benefit the portion of the roof they cover by protecting and preserving it.
Are solar panels safe?
Yes! If you use your solar energy system correctly, there is very little risk to having solar panels installed on your roof. Solar systems are installed with multiple automatic safety features that prevent any electrical issues. Solar panels are also lightweight and are designed for little to no impact on the structure of your roof. In addition, the NEC (National Electric Code) requires triple-redundant AC & DC breakers for rapid system shutdown for firefighter safety. The most recent NEC requirements also call for a 24” set back from an abutment or roof edge to give plenty of room to navigate the roof.
Can I go "off-grid"?

Every state has different requirements. New Jersey requires every residential property to be connected to the utility, even if you get all your power from solar panels.

How does solar power work?

Here's the gist of how solar panels on your roof transform the sun's light into renewable, clean energy to power your home and more:

  1. Solar panels made up of silicon photovoltaic (PV) cells are installed on your roof. When the sunlight hits the solar panels, the PV cells absorb the sun's radiation to generate Direct Current (DC) energy.
  2. DC electricity is directed to a central inverter in your system setup and then converted into Alternating Current (AC) electricity, which is commonly used throughout homes.
  3. AC electricity then flows from the inverter to the breaker box, which sends electricity to the appliances in your home.
  4. Unused solar electricity is then sent back through a utility meter to the grid.

Electricity is stored in and drawn from the grid when your home needs more energy than is produced by your solar panels.

Is my property/roof suitable for solar panels?

Most likely, yes! Almost any residential or commercial property and roof type can have a solar panel system installed on it. There are no size, material, or shape requirements involved. There are some exceptions for mobile homes, so just give us a call to check if you're unsure.

Do I need to repair or replace my roof before installing solar?

Solar panel systems will last at least 25 years without replacement, so it's important the roof structure underneath is durable enough to support the system's lifespan. If your roof is over ten years old, our roofing experts can offer an evaluation to ensure it is in proper shape to support your new solar panel system installation. If your roof does require service, we can assist in providing a free quote and exceptional roofing repairs or replacement as needed.

How much power will my panels generate with solar?

This will vary depending on the size of your property and solar panel system as well as the amount of shade your roof gets and some other factors. To get a more accurate estimate of your property's solar power generating capacity, the best thing to do is contact us or try this helpful calculator.

What happens if the weather damages my panels?

While nature will take its course, damage can occur to your solar panels from lightning storms, hail, hurricanes, and other natural events. Luckily, most insurance covers these damages, but we can help you make sure you are covered as well as offer any solar panel maintenance, repairs, and re-installations you may need.

Will I save money by going solar?

With the ever-increasing price of utilities, solar is a clean, renewable, and affordable energy source that provides fixed payments and savings from day one! Most customers can expect to save 60-80% on their utility bills and earn rebate credits on energy that's unused each month!

How can I find state incentives and tax breaks that will help me go solar?

View the solar panel incentives and policies to check for savings in your state, or check the guide to federal tax credits from the U.S. Department of Energy. Additionally, the professionals at EMT Solar & Roofing would be happy to help you identify and harness all the state and federal tax credits available to you!

How will solar impact the resale value of my home?

Solar is an investment in not only affordable energy for a lifetime but also in your home's long-term value, should you ever choose to sell it. A solar panel system will likely increase any property's value, and the installation is viewed as an upgrade to many buyers just as a kitchen renovation or addition would be considered.

Will my system require any maintenance?

Luckily, solar power technology is very low-maintenance and requires no moving parts, unlike most other systems. This means a lower chance of system errors and the likelihood that you won’t need to worry about replacing your panels at all during their lifetime.

In some cases, solar wiring may need occasional adjusting as per unforeseen impacts from nature, animals, etc. Solar panels also rarely require cleaning due to the rainwater that washes them free of debris. We recommend you get a professional inspection, which EMT Solar & Roofing would be happy to provide every 3 to 5 years to ensure your system is performing properly with a thorough visual and internal system check.
